Blossom Bridges: PIGments at Blossom IDD
If you’re looking for creative expression in a supportive environment, PIGments might be your perfect fit. This free, community-based program is a collaboration between Blossom IDD and Mel’s Charities. Open to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) ages 18 and older, PIGments provides a fun space to explore the arts, connect with peers, and enjoy meaningful social experiences—all while removing barriers to participation.
What Is PIGments?
PIGments meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month (February, March, April, May, September, October, November, and December) at various community locations with a few special dates added on here and there. Each session is devoted to hands-on arts and crafts projects, providing an outlet for creativity and self-expression. From painting to collage to seasonal crafts, participants can try new techniques, showcase their talents, and build self-confidence in a warm, inclusive setting.
Why the “PIGments” Name?
Mel’s Charities, known for its commitment to uplifting local communities, developed the PIGments for a Cause initiative. The playful “pig” theme reflects Mel’s Charities’ signature style of fun and camaraderie—reminding everyone that art and creativity can also bring people together for a good time and a good cause.
Who Can Participate?
- Adults with IDD (18+) who wish to engage in arts-based, social activities
- Individuals who can manage self-care independently—or bring a support person if extra help is needed with toileting, dressing, or other personal tasks
- People who can behave safely in a group setting with minimal prompting. If someone needs more assistance, a companion or staff member is welcome to attend to offer one-on-one support.
- Anyone looking to meet new friends, express creativity, and connect with the broader community
Note: Violent or disruptive behaviors cannot be accommodated at this time to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants.
