Cultivation Crew: Potlucks at Blossom IDD

Looking for a fun, free way to get creative in the kitchen, share a healthy meal, and connect with new friends? The Cultivation Crew: Potlucks program at Blossom IDD invites adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to host or attend regular gatherings, where everyone contributes to a shared meal and friendly conversation. Here’s your complete guide to what potlucks involve, who can join, and how to sign up!

What Are Cultivation Crew Potlucks?

Launched in Spring 2024, the Potlucks program provides an easy, enjoyable way for participants to:

  • Build cooking and hosting skills by organizing meals and activities in their own homes or community spaces.
  • Foster friendships with peers in a relaxed, supportive environment.
  • Practice independence by planning meals, managing invitations, and socializing without relying on family members.

How It Works

  1. Everyone Hosts: Each participant must host at least one potluck.
  2. Attend Other Potlucks: Once you’ve agreed to host, you can sign up for up to 5 additional potlucks as a guest.
  3. Menu & Activity: Hosts collaborate with Executive Director (Samantha Bear, “SB”) at least two weeks in advance to choose a well-rounded meal and a simple group activity.
  4. Community Collaboration: The host decides the location (home or community venue) and organizes logistics with Blossom IDD’s help.

Important: Due to space and resource limitations, each potluck is capped at 10 people (with an additional 20 guest-only slots shown in sign-up. If you see open spots a week before an event, feel free to grab one even if you’ve reached your initial 5 events.

Sign-Up Details & Deadlines

  • One-Week Notice: Sign up or remove your name at least 7 days before each potluck.
  • Already Signed Up for 5? Wait until one week prior to the potluck to see if additional spots remain.
  • To Host: Contact Samantha Bear (SB) as early as possible to secure your preferred date. Once a date is taken, the sign-up system will be updated.

Why a One-Week Deadline?

Many potlucks involve purchasing ingredients, planning an activity, and ensuring the host’s space is ready. Giving at least a week’s notice helps our staff and hosts to be fully prepared.

Is This Program a Good Fit?

  1. Adults with IDD (Ages 18+)
  2. Independent in Self-Care or accompanied by a support person if needed
  3. Social/Behavioral Independence with minor prompting, or willingness to bring a support person for assistance
  4. Desire for Peer Interaction: This is a great way to hang out with friends outside a family setting
  5. Enthusiasm for Cooking & Sharing Meals: You don’t need to be a master chef—just willing to learn, experiment, and have fun!

Upcoming Potluck Dates (2025)

All potlucks typically occur on Sundays. Times and locations vary; see sign-up details or contact SB for more information. (Spaces: Host: 1, Participants: 10, Additional Guests: 20, Volunteers: 2)
